History: Bryan Greensill followed his brother Maling, who owned land in Ohingaroa, Mahau Sound, will working with his brother he meet his wife Winfred and looked to purchase land. What better place than next door, so around 1890 Bryan purchased the flats and the farm that is now known as Bryndale was established. The property was cleared of bush for sheep and beef farming and the new family built the original homestead which was a small hut with veranda tucked into a gully with no sea views in around 1902. As the family expand and the original small home was outgrown, it was decided to expand the home and at the same time move it to its current site to take advantage of the views, shelter and proximity to the water, being sea was the main form of transport at the time, around 1920. The family planted numerous trees as part of a boat building business at the time, many of these trees remain today with towering Redwood trees surrounding the homestead. However, the depression changed the boat building opportunities and the next generations concentrated on farming, but the sailing background was not forgotten with regular Sunday sailing being undertaken on the boats built by Bryan, a Logan design boat The Wanderer being the pride and joy of the family.
Buildings: The original three bedroom homestead, while in need of some loving, as we all are when we get over 100yrs old, is situated in a prime location. Sheltered with a grandstand view down Broughton Bay, with its deep water and great fishing opportunities. The wide veranda is asking for you to sit on and watch the sun come up while enjoying coffee and breakfast. To the rear of the house sits the old washhouse, and an extra toilet. Sheds and storage abound, with a 10 bay shed giving opportunity to store all the toys, or as a potential site for a business. A 3 bay shed closer to the homestead and the garage and further 3 bay shed further extend the opportunities. The old shearing shed, is an old shearing shed. The haybarn is situated in the center of the property with views back towards Havelock. Now is your opportunity to secure this property for the next 100 years.
